Al-Mahmud, Bijoy, RU Correspondent: The admission test for the ‘C’ (Science) Unit of Rajshahi University (RU) for the 2024–25 academic session was held on Friday, with intense competition among aspirants, as an average of 82 candidates fought for each seat.

The examination was conducted in two shifts from 11:00 am to 12:00 noon and from 3:00 pm to 4:00 pm— at regional centres in five divisional cities across the country.

University sources said that the ‘C’ Unit comprises a total of 26 departments under seven faculties. Of these, nine departments are under the Faculty of Science, six under the Faculty of Biological Sciences, two under the Faculty of Agriculture, five under the Faculty of Engineering, two under the Faculty of Geosciences, and one department each under the Faculty of Fisheries and the Faculty of Veterinary and Animal Sciences.

This year, the total number of seats in the ‘C’ Unit stands at 1,536. Among them, 1,496 seats are allocated for science-background students, while 40 seats are reserved for non-science candidates. Applicants from the non-science stream will be eligible only for admission to the Department of Physical Education and Sports Science (10 seats), the Department of Geography and Environmental Studies (10 seats), and the Department of Psychology (20 seats).

A total of 126,225 candidates applied for the ‘C’ Unit this year. Of them, 120,838 are from the science background, while 5,387 are from the non-science stream. Based on these figures, an average of 82 aspirants are competing for each seat.

On-the-spot observations revealed that candidates and their guardians began arriving at the designated centres well before 10:00 am. By around 10:30 am, examinees were lined up and allowed to enter the examination halls in an orderly manner. Authorities strictly enforced regulations, barring candidates from carrying calculators, mobile phones, Bluetooth devices, or any other electronic gadgets with memory capacity inside the halls.

For the second consecutive year, Rajshahi University has organised its admission tests at regional centres in five divisional cities to ease the sufferings of students. The university has a total of 4,017 seats across all units this year.

Besides Rajshahi University, the admission tests were held at centres of Dhaka University and Jagannath University in Dhaka, Chattogram University in Chattogram, Khulna University in Khulna, Begum Rokeya University and two adjacent institutions in Rangpur region, and Barishal University in Barishal.
