GAU ranks 1st among Bangladesh's public universities

Gazipur Agricultural University (GAU) has secured first position among all public universities in Bangladesh in the Life Sciences category of the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Subject Rankings 2026, published by the UK-based globally renowned higher education magazine Times Higher Education (THE). 

According to the rankings released on 21 January 2026, GAU also achieved the highest Research Quality score (69.5) in the country, emerging as the top university in Bangladesh across both public and private institutions. 

Internationally, the university has been placed in the 601-800 band, marking a significant global recognition. 

This year's ranking evaluated universities in four major fields: Veterinary Science, Biological Sciences, Agriculture & Forestry and Sports Science across 1,211 institutions in 98 countries worldwide. The rankings were based on the quality of research, international outlook, research environment and teaching excellence. 

Expressing his satisfaction, Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. GKM Mustafizur Rahman said, the achievement reflects GAU's strong research foundation and human-centered academic mission. 

He congratulated the university's teachers, students, officers.

, staff and man days workers adding that GAU will continue to advance quality research, innovation and knowledge creation for national and global welfare. 

Earlier, GAU ranked first among agricultural universities in Bangladesh in the QS World University Rankings: Sustainability 2026 and secured the 77th position globally in the WURI 2025 (Development and Application category).
