SEN’s Latest Episode Sheds Light on Systemic Plunder and Raises a Key Question about Bangladesh’s Future

South Era Network has released episode five of its landmark documentary Between Two Futures: Episode 05, a forensic look at the 18 months spanning from the July uprising to the verge of a national election. The film centers on a defining national question: will the next phase of leadership uphold transparency or fall back into patterns of systemic plunder?

The series documents the nationwide July 2024 uprising, the aftermath of Sheikh Hasina fleeing to India, the formation of an interim government, and preparations for the national parliamentary election and referendum set for February 12.

Episode 05 tracks those held responsible for pushing Bangladesh toward the brink of collapse, alongside the interim government now attempting under pressure and behind schedule to stabilize the country.
It argues that over 15 years of Sheikh Hasina’s rule, while a narrative of stability was promoted publicly, massive financial misconduct occurred behind the scenes. Political allies were shielded and loan defaulters granted amnesty. The documentary examines the roles of S Alam Group, BEXIMCO, and Summit as key intermediaries between the ruling party and the financial sector.

Following the July uprising, the interim government began uncovering previously concealed data. Under interim leadership, Bangladesh Bank disclosed many scams that had long been treated as routine. Findings suggested that at least 2 trillion taka was extracted from the system during Hasina’s tenure.
This episode ultimately asks whether the next post-election power cycle will continue on a path of transparency or return to past practices.

The Between Two Futures series positions itself not just as a historical account, but as a timely reflection on a possible shift in Bangladesh’s political and economic mindset.
