Journalist Zakaria Kajol laid to eternal rest
Veteran media professional Zakaria Kajol was buried in the capital's Banani graveyard yesterday after his funeral prayer.     -AA

Senior journalist and founding member of Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) Zakaria Kajol has been laid to eternal rest in the capital's Banani graveyard. His funeral prayer was offered on the premises of National Press Club and in front of DRU office on Saturday (7 February 2026). Zakaria Kajol was 67 years old at the time of his death.

People from different walks of life joined Zakaria Kajol's Namaz-E-Janaza yesterday noon at 2 pm. DRU President Abu Saleh Akon and General Secretary Mainul Hasan Sohel expressed profound grief at the death of Zakaria Kajol. Prominent journalists representing different media outlets recalled their memories with Zakaria Kajol and sympathized with his bereaved family members. The attendees of the funeral rites also prayed for Zakaria Kajol's eternal peace in the world hereafter. Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ) leader Obaidur Rahman Shaheen, DRU leader Shahidul Islam, DRU Vice President Rafique Mohammad, journalists Sajjad Alam Khan Topu, Akter Hossain and Economic Reporters Forum (ERF) President Daulat Akter Mala spoke on the occasion.  

Journalists and media workers laid floral wreaths on Zakaria Kajol's coffin. DRU office bearers Niaz Mahmud Sohel, Rashim Mollah, Mizan Chowdhury, Monowar Hossain, Aminul Haque Bhuiyan, Mahfuzur Rahman, Al Amin Azad and Suman Chowdhury were present at that time.

Zakaria Kajol passed away on Friday while undergoing medical treatment at a hospital in Dhaka city. He has left behind his wife and two daughters to mourn his death. Zakaria Kajol was born in Brahmanbaria on 16 December 1959. He studied Journalism in Dhaka University and acquired a Master degree. During his decorated career, Zakaria Kajol held vital posts in Dainik Azad, Daily Observer, Inqilab, bdnews24.com, Jamuna Television etcetera.
