Police Department declines social media photo card on IGP

Police Headquarters, Bangladesh have dismissed as "baseless and fabricated" a statement circulating on social media that claimed Inspector General of Police (IGP) Ali Hossain Fakir "threatened to remove officers linked to fascists" from the country.

In a press release issued on Friday morning (20 March 2026), the Police Headquarters stated that a fabricated photo card has recently gone viral on Facebook and other social media platforms, quoting IGP Ali Hossain Fakir as saying that no police personnel linked to "fascists" would be allowed to remain in the country.

"The IGP has not made any such statement in any forum or through any medium," said the press release, sent by Assistant Inspector General of Police (Media) AHM Sahadat Hossain.

It added that the quote is completely false and has been created to malign Police Department.

The press release also mentioned that a vested group is behind the circulation of the fabricated content with the intent to tarnish the police force's image.

Police Headquarters urged people not to be misled by such fictitious and false claims and to avoid sharing unverified information on social media.
