Bangla QR apps for all banks to be introduced by June 2026: BB Governor

Bangladesh Bank Governor Mostaqur Rahman has said that Bangla QR apps for all banks will be launched by June this year, adding that he has already directed all banks in this regard. He made the remarks on Wednesday at Bangladesh Bank during a view-exchange meeting with business editors from electronic media.

The Governor further stated that political influence remains a major barrier to ensuring good governance in the banking sector. He warned that no political interference will be allowed in the banking sector in the future. He also emphasized that banks must exercise strict scrutiny in approving projects to reduce defaulted loans. At the same time, banks have been instructed to be more cautious in distributing risky loans, he added.

According to Bangladesh Bank, Bangla QR is the country's national payment system, enabling digital transactions through bank apps by scanning QR codes with smartphones.

Additionally, small, medium, and large entrepreneurs, as well as restaurants, grocery stores, and all types of retailers, will be able to accept payments through this system. Consumers from all income groups-low, middle and high-will benefit from this digital payment method.

Shop owners will also be able to use the app easily for managing daily transaction accounts.
