DSCC begins eviction drive against illegal bus counters

Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) has launched a major eviction drive in the Sayedabad inter-district bus terminal area to restore order on roads and ease traffic congestion.

The drive began Wednesday targeting unauthorised and illegal bus counters located along the stretch from T&T Para intersection to Dholai Par.

The operation was conducted under the leadership of DSCC Executive Magistrate Aminul Islam with assistance from law
enforcement agencies.

According to DSCC officials, the eviction drive followed a coordination meeting held on March 10 involving the Dhaka Metropolitan Police, Dhaka Road Transport Bus Owners Association, Sayedabad Inter-District Bus Terminal Transport Owners Association and transport workers' representatives.

Based on a preliminary survey, a total of 240 illegal bus counters centred around Sayedabad were identified along the road between T&T para intersection and Dholai Par.

During the drive, authorities demolished the identified illegal structures and warned those involved not to occupy roads or footpaths again in the future.

Alongside Sayedabad, DSCC also carried out eviction operations to clear illegal structures and free footpaths along several important routes of the capital, including from Moghbazar intersection through Shaheed Captain Mansur Ali Sarani to Kakrail Mosque, Matsya Bhaban and Abdul Gani Road up to Osmani Memorial Auditorium.

Similar drives were conducted from Banglamotor to Hotel InterContinental and in the Hare Road and Shikkha Bhaban areas.

Illegal bus counters in the Sayedabad area had long been causing severe traffic congestion and suffering for passengers.

DSCC said the move was taken in the public interest to restore discipline in urban management, adding that the eviction drive will continue until all illegal counters are removed.
