Bangladesh Coast Guard (BCG) organized a coordination meeting to strengthen the overall security of the country's southwestern coastal waterways and the Sundarbans.
Lieutenant Commander Sabbir Alam Sujan, media officer of the Coast Guard, confirmed the matter on Thursday.
He said that an important coordination meeting was held at Coast Guard Base Mongla to suppress piracy, prevent illegal activities and strengthen overall security in the southwestern coastal waterways and the Sundarbans area of the country.
Representatives of Bangladesh Navy, District Administration-Bagerhat, Police, RAB, Naval Police, other important organizations, Mongla Port Authority, Narcotics Control Department, Fisheries Department, Forest Department, Shipping Department, Launch Labor Association, Tour Operator Association of Sundarbans, Resort Operator Association of Sundarbans, Fishermen's Association and Majhi-Malla Association were present at the meeting.
At that time, various important issues including strengthening anti-piracy activities in Sundarbans, preventing illegal arms infiltration and human trafficking through border river routes, ensuring the safety of tourist ships and passengers, preventing robberies and kidnappings in resorts and
wildlife conservation were discussed in detail.
In addition, necessary decisions were taken to prevent theft and robbery at outer anchorages, instruct to deploy watchmen for security work, prevent smuggling through fishing trawlers, implement a 58-day fishing ban at sea, strengthen the security of lighter and coaster ships plying domestic and international waterways, and ensure lighting at anchor.
The Coast Guard will continue such activities in the future to ensure the country's coastal security, suppress piracy, and prevent all types of crimes, he added.
