A planned robbery attempt at Abul Khair Rolling Mills Limited in Sitakunda, Chattogram, was successfully foiled due to the exceptional bravery and professionalism of members of the Bangladesh Ansar and Village Defence Party.
According to reports, at approximately 6:00 AM on Monday, a well-organized gang of 15 to 20 robbers infiltrated the factory premises and began cutting electrical cables with the intent of disrupting production.
On-duty Ansar personnel intervened promptly and resisted the attackers, who were armed with locally made weapons, displaying remarkable courage in the face of a sudden assault.
Sources stated that, in an effort to protect the facility's assets, Ansar members initially fired one round of rubber ammunition. When the attackers became more aggressive and refused to retreat, the personnel were compelled to fire three rounds of live ammunition in self-defense.
Facing strong resistance, the robbers attempted to flee the scene. However, Ansar members pursued them and successfully apprehended three individuals on the spot. Approximately 320 kilograms of electrical cables, along with machetes and other locally made weapons, were recovered from their possession.
The detained individuals have been identified as Md. Javed (27), son of Md. Siraj, from Shitalpur village under Sitakunda Police Station; Md. Sharifur Rahman (28), son of Md. Abul Kalam, from Fultala village under the same police station; and Md. Russell (29), son of Md. Shahjahan, from Begumganj area in Noakhali district.
Following the incident, the Upzilla Ansar and VDP officer promptly arrived at the scene and oversaw the situation. The detained suspects were later handed over to the local police along with the recovered materials for legal proceedings.
Authorities believe that the timely, coordinated, and responsible actions of the Ansar members prevented a major act of sabotage and significant financial loss. Notably, no members of the force were injured during the operation.
