Bandar celebrates Pahela Baishakh with great enthusiasm

Bandar Upazila celebrated Pahela Baishakh, the Bangla New Year 1433, with colorful festivities, cultural performances and enthusiastic participation from people of all ages. The celebration, marked by traditional customs and youthful energy, turned into a joyful gathering for the entire community. 
The programme began at 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday at the Upazila Parishad Auditorium.  

It was organized by the Upazila Administration under the leadership of Upazila Nirbahi Officer Shibani Sarkar. The event officially started with the national anthem. A colorful procession moved through the upazila compound, followed by cultural performances featuring patriotic songs, traditional Bengali music, dance and poetry recitation. Children and teenagers were the centre of attention throughout the celebration. Their lively performances, colourful dresses, bright smiles and energetic participation brought the festival to life and filled the venue with excitement and joy. 

The celebration also reflected the historical roots of the Bengali New Year, which dates back to the reign of Emperor Akbar.  The Bangla calendar was introduced during his rule to make the collection of agricultural taxes easier. Over the years, Pahela Baishakh has become a symbol of Bengali culture.

Traditional features such as panta bhat, hilsa fish, folk songs, local fairs and the custom of opening new account books added a special touch to the festival. These traditions remain closely connected to the everyday life and cultural identity of the Bengali people.

Government officials, teachers, students, representatives of different organisations and local residents attended the celebration, creating an atmosphere of unity and harmony.

Extending New Year greetings to the people of Bandar, Shibani Sarkar said that everyone should work together for the welfare of the country while preserving its history, heritage and culture. She expressed hope for a peaceful, prosperous and beautiful Bangladesh.

The day-long celebration became more vibrant and memorable because of the active involvement of children and young people. Their enthusiasm added a unique dimension to the festival, where history, tradition and the dreams of the next generation came together.
