We won't sit idle if things go wrong: Jamaat Ameer

Jamaat Ameer and Parliament's Opposition Chief Dr. Shafiqur Rahman said that Jamaat will not sit idle if the government misleads the country towards disasters. He said allegorically "We won't play on the flute like Nero if Rome burns. Rather we will make the best of our efforts to extinguish the fire and to resolve all problems practically".

Dr. Shafiqur Rahman made the above comments while visiting a pediatric hospital in the capital's Shyamali on Saturday (18 April 2026). He answered questions from journalists at that time. Dr. Shafiqur Rahman mainly went to the hospital to see children affected with measles.

The Jamaat Ameer said "We didn't find enough intensive care units (ICU) for measles patients anywhere in the country. Even there is an extreme lack of qualified doctors to look after children suffering from measles." He further said that he saw in a few hospitals around 4 thousand measles patients against 1 thousand beds and very poor logistic support. Dr. Shafiqur Rahman complained that immense corruption and plundering have paralyzed Bangladesh's health sector.

The Jamaat Ameer told reporters that most of the ministers don't talk about problems during the speeches whereas common people are inflicted with heavy loads of perils. He also blamed the authorities concerned for attempting to hide the true scenario of fuel crisis across Bangladesh.
