Naogaon man held for 'child rape'

Police have arrested a 60-year-old man for allegedly raping a fourth-grader and trying to sexually abuse another minor in Naogaon's Badalgachi Upazila.

Abdus Sattar was apprehended around 11am on Saturday, said the district's Superintendent of Police (SP) Mohammad Tarequl Islam, reports bdnews24.com.

The father of the "rape victim" filed a case against Sattar after hospitalising her daughter.

Citing family members and details of the case, Tarequl said the 10-year-old "rape victim's" father had gone to another district for work on Apr 11, and her mother was away from home that afternoon when the rape occurred.

Sattar had gone to the residence and tricked the girl and her playmate, 8, into an abandoned hut, luring them with biscuits and ice creams, according to the case dossier.

He "raped" the fourth-grader there and tried to "violate" the other, the case statement said, adding that Sattar, a neighbour of the schoolchildren, threatened them with dire consequences if they revealed the matter.

But the 10-year-old started complaining of "abdominal pain" the following day, with her condition worsening on Friday.

She was immediately admitted to Naogaon Medical College Hospital, where the child revealed what happened to her to doctors, said Tarequl.

The other girl also told her mother about the incident, he added.Doctors said the victim is feeling better after primary treatment.
