Acquisition of 110 acres of land approved for government projects


The Ministry of Land on Sunday approved the acquisition of 110.7759 acres of land for various government projects. The Central Land Acquisition Committee approved the proposal at its 155th meeting held at the Land Ministry's meeting room at the Secretariat.

Senior Secretary of the ministry ASM Saleh Ahmed and other officials attended the meeting, which was chaired by Land Minister Md. Mizanur Rahman Minu. Noting the importance of land acquisition for development projects, the minister said that such projects are necessary, but care must be taken to ensure that people do not face any hardship, reports BSS.  "We must acquire land in accordance with rules and regulations, ensuring the highest possible benefits for affected people," he said, adding a caution that authorities should avoid damaging agricultural land during project implementation.

At the meeting, approval was given to acquire a total of 1 acre of land in different plots under Dakshinkhan mouza of Sadar upazila in Gazipur district for the Pubail-Gazipur Fire Station under a project to establish 20 Fire Service and Civil Defence stations (12 new and 8 to be reconstructed) at important locations across the country. Approval was also granted for the acquisition of 12.1471 acres of land for the project titled "Upgrading the Dhaka (Kanchpur)-Sylhet-Tamabil highway into a four-lane road with separate service lanes on both sides."

In addition, the meeting approved the acquisition of 13.4448 acres of land across 14 mouzas in Uttara and Savar upazilas of Dhaka district under the fourth phase (0.00-24.00 km) of the Dhaka-Ashulia Elevated Expressway project.

Among other proposals recommended by district land acquisition committees for final approval were acquisitions of more than 50 bighas of land from various districts.

These include 17.9850 acres of land at Deunagar mouza in Beanibazar upazila of Sylhet district under the "Sylhet-Charakhai-Sheola Highway Development" project implemented by the Roads and Highways Department.

Another 11.8673 acres of land will be acquired in Fazilpur, Rajapur, Uttarbhag, Alinagar, Chandpur, Nij Mohammadpur, Chandgaon, Hetimkhali, Kadimalik and Kargaon mouzas in Beanibazar upazila.

Additionally, 23.9870 acres of land will be acquired in Chariya and Mewa mouzas of the same upazila.

Under the project titled "Support to Dhaka (Kanchpur)-Sylhet-Tamabil Highway Upgrading to Four Lanes with Separate Service Lanes on Both Sides," 12.0910 acres of land will be acquired in Jaintapur Nijpat, Moakhai and Purba Lakshiprasad mouzas, and 14.6997 acres in Chaelakhel and Lakshiprasad mouzas of Jaintapur upazila in Sylhet district.

Furthermore, the committee recommended final approval for the acquisition of 0.924 acres of land in Galimpur mouza and 2.6300 acres in Nabaikandi mouza under Matlab Uttar upazila of Chandpur district for the project titled "Upgrading Daudkandi-Goalmari-Shriramerchar (Cumilla)-Matlab Uttar (Chhengarchar) District Highway to Proper Standard and Width (1st revised)."
