The regional round of the Skills and Innovation Competition was held at Sylhet Polytechnic Institute, showcasing the innovative ideas and technical talents of
vocational students from the Sylhet region. Among 42 projects submitted by 14 educational institutions, the top three projects were selected to compete at the national level.
The event took place on Friday, at the Sylhet Polytechnic Institute campus. Students from 14 technical institutions across the region presented a total of 42 innovative projects. Following evaluation, three outstanding projects were nominated for the national competition.
The selected projects are: Smart Home Eco System by Sylhet Polytechnic Institute, Face Detector by Moulvibazar Polytechnic Institute, Smoke and Fume Controlling Welding Helmet by Habiganj Government Technical School and College, according to a press release.
The competition was organized by the Directorate of Technical Education under the Technical and Madrasa Education Division of the Ministry of Education, with the aim of fostering creativity, innovation, and technical excellence among students. It was arranged under the Accelerating and Strengthening Skills for Economic Transformation (ASSET) project being implemented by the Directorate.
The chief guest at the day-long event was Ariful Haque Chowdhury, Adviser to the Ministries of Labour and Employment, and Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment. The special guest was Md. Daud Mia, Secretary of the Technical and Madrasa Education Division. The program was chaired by Khan Md. Reza-un-Nabi, Divisional Commissioner of Sylhet. Welcome remarks were delivered by Shamsur Rahman Khan, Project Director of the ASSET project.
Among others present were Mohammad Rihan Uddin, Principal of Sylhet Polytechnic Institute; Mifta Siddiqui, Co-Organizing Secretary of BNP’s Central Executive Committee; Emdad Hossain Chowdhury, General Secretary of Sylhet Metropolitan BNP; along with officials from various sectors. Deputy Project Director Engineer Rabindranath Mahat presented a keynote paper at the event.
