Meeting on feasibility study for establishing WASA in Cumilla held

A meeting on feasibility study for establishing Water Supply and Sewerage Authority (WASA) in Cumilla held in the wake of the application of Cumilla 6 MP Monirul Haque Chowdhury.

The meeting was held at the Cumilla Circuit House on Saturday (April 18) afternoon.

Cumilla 6 MP Monirul Haque Chowdhury was present at the meeting organized by the district administration.

Deputy Commissioner Md. Reza Hasan, Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Saiful Islam, Cumilla Metropolitan BNP President Udbatul Bari Abu, South District BNP Senior Vice-President Amiruzzaman Bhuiyan, General Secretary Ashikur Rahman Mahmud Wasim, Organizing Secretary Nazrul Islam Bhuiyan Swapan, BNP leaders Mojahid Chowdhury, Mahbubul Alam Chapal, Sadar South Upazila BNP President Advocate Akhtar Hossain and officials of the concerned government departments were present at the meeting.

The importance of establishing WASA was highlighted in the view-sharing meeting. In view of the government's policy decision to establish WASA, it was decided to send the necessary information to the ministry. The meeting discussed the scope of WASA and manpower. The Deputy Commissioner will send the information received from the City Corporation to the ministry in the form of a resolution.

Also, there was a discussion on the expansion of the boundaries of the City Corporation. In view of the application of Monirul Haque Chowdhury MP, a 6-member committee has been formed from the Local Government Department to conduct on-site observation and submit a report. The committee will observe the proposed new boundaries and submit a report.

At the meeting, Monirul Haque Chowdhury MP said, "There is no alternative to establishing WASA to make a city modern and livable. The city will be modernized only when WASA, sewage system, and metropolitan facilities are introduced."

Deputy Commissioner Md. Reza Hasan said, "I have received a letter to test the feasibility of establishing WASA. In that context, a meeting was held with the MP today. The information received from the City Corporation and the meeting today will be sent to the ministry."
