Bangladesh for  stronger regional cooperation: Faqir Mahbub Anam

Bangladesh has called for stronger regional cooperation at the 82nd Session of the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (United Nations ESCAP), emphasizing collective action to address climate change, economic pressures, and global uncertainties. The Bangladesh delegation was led by Minister Faqir Mahbub Anam, Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications & Information Technology and Ministry of Science and Technology, according to a press release.

In his statement, the Minister stressed that stronger regional collaboration is essential to overcome present global challenges. He highlighted Bangladesh's ongoing initiatives to strengthen its economy through support for small and medium enterprises, investment facilitation, and promotion of innovation.

He further underscored the importance of expanding opportunities for youth and women through skills development, job creation, and participation in the digital economy. Reaffirming Bangladesh's commitment, he emphasized social protection, healthcare expansion, and climate resilience, including the promotion of renewable energy.

"Enhanced regional cooperation is essential for shared prosperity and a sustainable future for all," the Minister stated. At the conclusion of his remarks, he conveyed warm greetings from the Hon'ble Prime Minister of Bangladesh to all participating delegates. 

The session, themed "Leaving no one behind: advancing a society for all ages in Asia and the Pacific," was inaugurated by the Prime Minister of Thailand, Anutin Charnvirakul. In her remarks, Executive Secretary of ESCAP Armida Salsiah Alisjahbana noted that progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals remains off track and highlighted the need for stronger regional  cooperation and evidence-based policymaking.
