IEB, IEP and PEC hold bilateral meeting enhancing regional cooperation

A bilateral meeting between The Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh (IEB), The Institution of Engineers, Pakistan (IEP) and the Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) was held in Dhaka on Sunday, highlighting renewed efforts to strengthen professional collaboration and deepen regional engagement among engineering institutions.

 The meeting took place at the Prokoushali Conference Hall (3rd Floor) of the IEB Headquarters in Ramna, with Engr Mohammad Reazul Islam (Rezu), president of The Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh (IEB), presiding over the session.

Among the distinguished participants were Engr Sohail Bashir, FIE, PE, president of The Institution of Engineers, Pakistan (IEP), and Engr Dr Sarosh Hashmat Lodi, senior vice chairman of the Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC). 

The bilateral engagement underscored the importance of strengthening ties among professional engineering bodies to address emerging technological, infrastructural and sustainability challenges across the region.

Participants discussed avenues for expanding technical cooperation, institutional collaboration and knowledge-sharing, with a focus on enhancing professional standards and supporting engineering-led development initiatives.

Officials noted that stronger cooperation between engineering institutions could contribute significantly to regional capacity-building and foster innovation in key sectors such as infrastructure, energy and digital transformation.

Speaking at the meeting, IEB President Engr Mohammad Reazul Islam (Rezu) said the initiative reflects a shared commitment to advancing engineering excellence through cooperation and professional engagement.

Prof Dr Shabbir Mustafa Khan, general secretary of IEB, said strengthened collaboration among engineering bodies would create new opportunities for professional growth and technical knowledge exchange.

IEP President Engr Sohail Bashir highlighted the importance of sustained institutional ties, noting that closer cooperation between IEP and IEB would help enhance professional competency and promote innovation-driven development. Meanwhile, Engr Dr Sarosh Hashmat Lodi, senior vice chairman of PEC, emphasized the need for strong professional and regulatory cooperation to maintain internationally recognized standards and ensure continuous professional development.

During the discussions, participants explored the possibility of organizing joint seminars, workshops and professional training programs, along with collaborative research initiatives aimed at strengthening engineering knowledge and technical capacity.

Special emphasis was placed on supporting young engineers and early-career professionals, enabling them to benefit from regional knowledge-sharing platforms and exposure to international best practices.

Participants also highlighted the importance of collaborative efforts in addressing challenges related to sustainable infrastructure, climate resilience and technological innovation. Officials described the meeting as an important milestone in strengthening professional relations between engineering institutions of Bangladesh and Pakistan. 

They expressed optimism that continued engagement between IEB, IEP and PEC would pave the way for long-term partnerships, joint technical initiatives and expanded institutional cooperation in the years ahead.
