Bangladesh continued its active and high-level engagement on the second day of the 82nd Session of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) in Bangkok, demonstrating leadership in advancing regional dialogue and cooperation. The Bangladesh delegation, led by. Fakir Mahbub Anam, MP, Minister of Science and Technology and Posts, Telecommunications & Information Technology ministry chaired the morning session of the 82nd Commission. The session started at 09:00 am and continued till 12:00 pm by the participating of the delegations of 53 member countries.
The countries intervened their statements. The session also featured a roundtable discussion conducted by Lin Yang, Deputy Executive Secretary of ESCAP, facilitating an interactive exchange of views among member States on advancing inclusive and sustainable development across the region.
Fakir Mahbub Anam’s highly prestigious and visionary chairing of the ESCAP CS82 morning session reflected Bangladesh’s growing leadership in shaping an inclusive and forward-looking regional agenda. During the session, Bangladesh delivered its country statement on agenda items 3 and 4, reaffirming its strong commitment to the overarching theme of “Leaving No One Behind.” Bangladesh highlighted its national efforts toward inclusive development, social protection, and economic resilience, including flagship initiatives such as the Family Card and Farmer’s Card.
On the sidelines of the session, the delegation engaged with ESCAP officials and development partners to further strengthen cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
In the afternoon, the Bangladesh delegation, led by the Minister, held a bilateral meeting with the delegation of Kazakhstan, headed by the Deputy Minister, where both sides discussed key bilateral issues and avenues for enhanced collaboration.
Earlier, he attended a side event on “Advancing Trusted AI in Asia and the Pacific: From National Leadership to Regional Solutions”, underscoring Bangladesh’s interest in emerging technologies and digital transformation.
The 82nd Session of ESCAP is being held in Bangkok under the theme “Leaving no one behind: advancing a society for all ages in Asia and the Pacific.”
