Four workers were buried in a landslide while digging a hole in the Agrabad Access Road area under Halishahar police station in Chittagong city. Two workers were killed and two others were injured. The accident occurred at around 4:45 am on Thursday (23 April 2026). The deceased were identified as Rakib and Tushar.
Their hometown is in Dinajpur district. The two injured workers are Sagar and Ershad.
Sub Inspector Nurul Alam Ashek, in-charge of the Chattogram Medical College Hospital police outpost, told The Asian Age that the workers were buried when the soil suddenly collapsed during the ongoing soil excavation work under the China Hydro Company. Later on, locals rescued four people and took them to Chattogram Medical College (CMCH) Hospital around 4:45 am, where the doctors on duty declared two of them dead.
The two wounded workers have been admitted to the casualty ward of the hospital.
It may be recalled that landslides often happen in hilly areas in some parts of Bangladesh including Chittagong city and the Chittagong Hill Districts. Environmental experts have over and over again blamed illegal chopping down of hills by land-grabbers for such occurrences which take away lives.
