Villagers demand road construction in Rupganj

Villagers staged a human chain demanding road construction in Rupganj of Narayanganj.

The demonstration was held in the Balu Dakshinpara area of ward number 8 of Kayetpara Union Parishad of the upazila on Friday afternoon.

At that time, the speakers in the human chain said that Balu Dakshinpara village of Kayetpara Union of the upazila has been neglected for a long time. This road, which is about half a kilometer long, from Helal Uddin's house to Madhur's house, becomes impassable even after a little rain. Currently, no rickshaw or emergency ambulance can enter the village on this road. As a result, pregnant mothers and dying patients face indescribable difficulties in taking them to the hospital. During the rainy season, school and college students have to walk through mud up to their knees to go to their schools and colleges. Many times, their clothes are ruined and they cannot go to educational institutions.

Besides, the farmers are also facing double expenses in transporting agricultural produce as the road is unpaved and dilapidated. Although the road construction work started 7 months ago, the road has not seen the light of day.

The speakers also said that although the public representatives promised to build the road during the elections, no one has inquired after the elections. Despite going to the Upazila Administration and Union Parishad several times, no effective remedy has been found so far.

They warned that if no visible steps are taken to start the road construction work soon, they will carry out more stringent programs in the future, including besieging the Upazila Parishad.

The locals drew the attention of the Honorable Prime Minister through the appropriate authorities and sought immediate administrative move to alleviate this public suffering.
