Child dies with measles symptoms in Sylhet

Another child has died with measles-like symptoms at Sylhet's MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital, taking the number of such deaths at the facility to seven.

The child, 10-year-old Arif, died around 10am on Friday while undergoing treatment in the intensive care unit, the hospital's Director Brig Gen Umar Rashed Munir said, reports bdnews24.com.

He had been admitted with suspected measles and bronchopneumonia, according to Munir.

"Later, he developed abdominal pain, passed black stools and had black fluid coming from his nose. The child showed irritable behaviour, high fever and signs of shock," he said.

"This could be haemorrhagic measles, also known as 'black measles'. Samples have been sent to the laboratory for testing."
