Protesters rally in Brahmanbaria decrying attempt to grab Ustad Alauddin Khan musical academy's land

A human chain and protest rally were held in Brahmanbaria town to oppose the alleged conspiracy to grab the land of the Sur Samrat Ustad Alauddin Khan Sangeetangan and to demand the fast implementation of the ongoing process for the Ustad Alauddin Khan Cultural Complex project.

The program was organized on Friday afternoon under the banner of the "Angry Cultural Activists Platform" in Brahmanbaria.

The event was chaired by journalist Abdun Noor, the initiator of the platform and president of Anushilan Cultural Center.

Speakers at the gathering in front of the Sangeetangan included Motilal Banik, a member of Anushilan Cultural Center; Zahurul Islam Chowdhury Swapan, president of the district Udichi; Nihar Ranjan Sarkar, general secretary of the district Khelaghar;  freedom fighter Abu Hurairah; and Fahim Muntasir, president of  Sonali Sokal.

The speakers said that the world-renowned music maestro Alauddin Khan is not only the pride of Brahmanbaria but of all Bangladesh.

However, there have been repeated conspiracies surrounding the Sangeetangan established in his donated residence. Reactionary groups have attempted multiple times to destroy the institution through arson but failed. Recently, attempts to grab the land using forged documents have further exposed their true intentions to the public.

They called upon people from all walks of life, regardless of political affiliation, to unite in protecting the land of the Sangeetangan from land grabbers and to preserve the legacy of this legendary musician.

After the gathering, a protest procession was held with the same demands. It marched through the main streets of the district town and ended in front of the Brahmanbaria Press Club.
