Ex-Deputy Education Minister Ghulam Sarwar Milon passes away

Former Member of Parliament for Manikganj-4 and former Deputy Minister for Education, Ghulam Sarwar Milon, has passed away. He breathed his last at approximately 4:45 am on Sunday (April 26).

He is survived by his wife, one daughter, one son, and numerous admirers and well-wishers. His first funeral prayer was held after Zuhr at Singair High School field in Manikganj, while the second janaza took place after Maghrib at Kabiraj Jame Mosque on Nazimuddin Road in the capital.
Ghulam Sarwar Milon remained active in the country's political arena for many years and held several important positions throughout his career. His death has prompted deep sorrow among colleagues, supporters, and well-wishers.

He served as the first elected president of the Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal for the 1981-82 term. Prior to that, he was involved with the National Students' Party, a left-leaning student organization aligned with Bhashani-NAP.

In 1986, he joined the Jatiya Party and was later appointed a Presidium Member. He was elected Member of Parliament from the then Manikganj-4 constituency as a Jatiya Party candidate in both the third and fourth parliamentary elections. During the cabinet of former President Hussain Muhammad Ershad, he also served as State Minister for Education.

Following the widely discussed political changes after the 2007 One-Eleven period, Milon joined the Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) led by Ferdous Ahmed Qureshi. Later, he rejoined the Jatiya Party. Ahead of the 11th National Parliamentary Election, he joined former President A.Q.M. Badruddoza Chowdhury's Bikalpa Dhara Bangladesh and contested from Manikganj-2 with the 'Kula' symbol, but was unsuccessful. His passing marks the end of a long and eventful political journey.
