A case has been filed against a teacher of Jannatul Bushra Girls' Madrasa for attempting to rape a ten-year-old student of a madrasa in Hasimpur-Kalabaria area of Raipura municipality of Narsingdi. The accused Junaid Ahmed, son of Musleh Uddin of Chandekandi area of the upazila, is the muhtamim of the madrasah. After the incident, the accused went into hiding.
On Sunday afternoon, two days after the incident, the victim's mother filed a case of attempted rape at Raipura police station against the teacher involved.
Prabir Kumar Ghosh, officer-in-charge (investigation) of the police station, confirmed the matter.
According to sources, the victim and her younger brother were admitted to Jannatul Bushra Girls' Madrasa in Hasimpur-Kalabaria of Raipura Municipality two months ago. She was studying in the Madrasa (residential) there.
On April 24, at 2 am, the madrasa's Muhtamim Junayed Ahmed touched the girl's private parts in an objectionable manner. After the incident, the girl felt sick in the morning, but she went to her aunt's house in Moulvibazar, Raipura Municipality. When asked about the cause of her illness, the girl told her aunt about the incident. Later, the aunt informed the girl's mother and father over the phone. The complaint further states that there are nail marks on the girl's private parts. Later, the victim Madrasa student was given primary treatment at the Raipura Upazila Health Complex. From there, she was referred to Narsingdi after receiving primary treatment.
Locals said that when the incident of attempted rape of a madrasa student came to light yesterday, an attempt was made to cover it up by arranging mediation through local representatives and leaders. Later, the mediation was stopped due to objections from the locals. At one point, the agitated crowd vandalized a window of the madrasa and demanded justice for the attempted rape of the student.
On information, the police went there and brought the situation under control and asked the victim's family to file a complaint at the police station.
Raipura Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mujibur Rahman said, "Police rushed to the spot after receiving information about the trouble in the arbitration session over the attempted rape incident of a student. Later, the victim's family was asked to file a complaint with the police station.
Today, the victim's mother filed a complaint with the police station."
"The incident is being investigated and a drive to arrest the accused madrasa teacher is underway", the OC added.
