Former Awami League Member of Parliament (MP) from Madaripur 3 constituency Abdus Sobhan Mia Golap has been shown arrested over crimes against humanity at the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) in connection with a murder committed in Madaripur during the 2024 July Uprising.
ICT-2 Chairman Justice Nazrul Islam Chowdhury and his bench handed down this order on Monday following a plea from the prosecution. Abdus Sobhan Mia Golap was produced before the court yesterday.
Advocate Faruq Ahammed attended the hearing for the prosecution during the court proceedings. Faruq Ahammed requested the tribunal to show Abdus Sobhan Mia Golap arrested in connection with a murder case.
The tribunal ordered the authorities concerned to send Abdus Sobhan Golap to prison when the hearing was over. The tribunal fixed May 4 for the next hearing over the case.
Abdus Sobhan Mia Golap was detained from a house in the capital's Nakhalpara on 25 August 2024. Since then he has been inside jail over a number of cases.
