Vice-Chancellor of University of Dhaka, Professor Dr. A.B.M. Obaidul Islam, has urged students to work for the welfare of society and humanity. He emphasized that students must remain careful so that their actions do not harm people or society in any way.
He made these remarks on Monday while addressing an orientation program for first-year undergraduate students at the Teacher-Student Centre (TSC) auditorium of the university.
The program was chaired by Professor Dr. Mehjabeen Haque. Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences, Professor Dr. Mohammad Moinul Islam, and Director of the Institute of Disaster Management and Vulnerability Studies, Professor Dr. Mohammad Moniruzzaman Khan, spoke as special guests.
First-year students Bishakha Dutta from the Department of Communication Disorders and Prothoma Ganguly from the Institute of Disaster Management and Vulnerability Studies shared their experiences on behalf of the new students. Deans of various faculties, department chairpersons, and student advisers were also present at the event.
In his speech, the Vice-Chancellor said that University of Dhaka ensures equal opportunities for education for all students, regardless of wealth, religion, or background. He encouraged students to make proper use of their time and opportunities to become good human beings and skilled professionals. He urged them to develop their abilities through hard work and perseverance and to prepare themselves as competent and
modern graduates.
Highlighting the importance of holistic development, he stressed that students should not remain confined to academic learning alone but should also engage in co-curricular activities.
Students from the Faculty of Social Sciences, Institute of Social Welfare and Research, Institute of Modern Languages, Institute of Health Economics, Institute of Information Technology, Institute of Disaster Management and Vulnerability Studies.
