BMU celebrates World Intellectual Property Day

Bangladesh Medical University (BMU) celebrated World Intellectual Property Day 2026 on Monday with a colorful rally that began in front of Block B of the university campus. This year’s global theme is “IP and Sports: Ready, Set, Innovate.” The event is expected to play an important role in raising awareness among BMU students, researchers, and stakeholders about the importance of protecting intellectual property rights as a vital component of knowledge, research, and innovation.

The rally was organized by the Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) and was formally inaugurated by the Honorable Vice-Chancellor of BMU, Professor Dr. F. M. Siddiqui, as the chief guest. In his address, the Vice-Chancellor stated that universities are centers of knowledge, research, and innovation. As a university, Bangladesh Medical University is making significant contributions to research and innovation. 

He further mentioned that effective initiatives have been undertaken to establish an Invention Hub at BMU to further promote innovation. He emphasized that BMU holds immense potential in advanced medical education, research, and innovation in the healthcare sector.

He also stressed the importance of ensuring intellectual property rights for innovations developed within the university. In this era of knowledge, science, technology, and continuous discoveries, attention must be given to securing patents, copyrights, and other ownership rights related to intellectual creations. In this context, the observance of World Intellectual Property Day is highly significant.

Among those present at the event were BMU’s respected Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Administration) Professor Dr. Md. Abul Kalam Azad, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Research and Development) Professor Dr. Md. Mujibur Rahman Howlader, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Academic) Professor Dr. Md. Nazrul Islam, Treasurer Professor Dr. Nahreen Akhtar, Registrar Professor Dr. Md. Mostafa Kamal, Chairman of the Department of Clinical Oncology Professor Dr. Syed Akram Hossain, Personal Secretary to the Vice-Chancellor and Deputy Controller of Examinations Md. Lutfor Rahman, among others.

The program was presided over by the Institutional Quality Assurance Cell President Professor Dr. Nurun Nahar Begum. The program was moderated by Dr. Dine Mojahid Md. Faruk Osmani,  Additional Director of IQAC. Respected teachers, physicians, and officials of BMU also participated in the celebration.
