DoE observed International Noise Awareness Day

The International Noise Awareness Day 2026 was observed across the country under the initiative of the Integrated and Participatory Project for Noise Pollution Control, being implemented by the Department of Environment. The day is observed globally, including in Bangladesh, on the last Wednesday of April every year.

International Noise Awareness Day has been observed in various countries since 1996. In Bangladesh, the day has been celebrated since 2003. Continuing that tradition, the Government officially marked the occasion this year as well on Wednesday.

Under the Noise Pollution Control Project, discussion meetings and rallies were organized in all 64 districts of the country by the Department of Environment in collaboration with Divisional Commissioners’ Offices and District Administrations. Simultaneously, mobile courts were conducted across Dhaka and the rest of the country. In Dhaka, a discussion session was held at the auditorium of the Department of Environment to mark the day. The State Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Sheikh Faridul Islam, MP, attended the event as the Chief Guest. Addressing the gathering, the State Minister said that people generally tend to prioritize visible issues, whereas noise pollution remains largely ignored because it is invisible. However, he emphasized that the impacts of noise pollution and its associated health risks are extremely harmful. Calling on everyone to come forward in preventing noise pollution, he said that only through individual awareness can this problem be reduced. He further added that everyone must act responsibly to protect nature and the environment. Addressing representatives of 18 participating organizations, the State Minister noted that if all organizations raise awareness about noise pollution through social media, it would play a highly effective role alongside government initiatives.

The event was chaired by Mohammad Navid Shafiullah, who is currently assigned routine responsibilities of the Secretary of the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change. Distinguished guests included Dr. Nurun Nahar, Director General of the Department of Environment; Mir Ahmed Tarikul Omar, Chairman (Additional Charge) of the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA); Dr. Md. Saidur Rahman, Additional Secretary of the Ministry; Md. Anisur Rahman, Additional Police Commissioner (Traffic) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police; and Md. Ziaul Haque, Additional Director General of the Department of Environment.
