UNESCO delegates call on IGP Ali Hossain Fakir

A UNESCO delegation team comprising three officials led by Country Representative Dr. Susan Vize met with the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Ali Hossain Fakir at the Police Headquarters in Dhaka on Thursday (30 April 2026).

The meeting focused on strengthening cooperation, particularly in training Bangladesh Police on professional skills, human rights, and cyber security. Discussions included protecting freedom of expression and improving relations between the police and the media.

During the meeting, Susan Vize congratulated the newly appointed IGP and discussed a range of important issues, including police reform, protection of freedom of expression, community policing, human rights, Susan Vize underscored that UNESCO has previously trained around 700 police officers of SP and OC ranks, with plans for further training initiatives.

This meeting followed earlier, separate discussions between UNESCO officials and Bangladesh law enforcement leadership regarding training initiatives aimed for June 2026.  

The IGP welcomed UNESCO's interest in enhancing the capabilities of the police force and underscored the importance of strengthening mutual cooperation between the Bangladesh Police and UNESCO.

Senior officials of the Bangladesh Police were also present at the meeting. UNESCO stands for United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization.
