Allegations have glared up that leaders and activists of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) have attacked two journalists at Hatibandha upazila under Lalmonirhat district while the media workers were taking video clips of extorting additional tolls by some people. It happened on Friday (1 May 2026). The assaulted journalists are Manobkantho correspondent Asaduzzaman Shaju and Ananda TV reporter Abdur Rahim.
Reportedly the attackers took away the above two journalists' cell phones. Relevant sources have informed that local BNP convener Nur Islam and former Chhatra Dal general secretary Mozibor and their companions invaded two journalists on Friday. The BNP leaders allegedly snatched journalist Asaduzzaman Shaju's mobile phone at that time.
Journalist Abdur Rahim came under attack when he tried to take a video clip of the attack. A video tape regarding this occurrence has meanwhile gone viral on social media. Local journalists became furious when they came to know about the two media professionals coming under attack at the hands of BNP activists. Hatibandha Upazila Press Club President Elias Basunia Paban protested over this untoward incident. Ramzan Ali, Officer-in-Charge in Hatibandha Police Station told reporters that he will go for action after receiving written complaints about the attack.
