Chhatra Dal leader Neli temporarily expelled for slapping JnUCSU sports secy

The university administration has expelled Chhatra Dal leader Sadia Sultana Neli on charges of an attack on Jagannath University Central Students' Union (JnUCSU) Sports Secretary Jorjis Anwar Nayeem. The announcement was made by the Vice-Chancellor at a press conference held in the VC's conference room on May 3.

Earlier the same day, in a statement signed by the JnUCSU Vice President (VP), General Secretary (GS), and Assistant General Secretary (AGS), a two-point ultimatum was issued.

In the statement, JnUCSU leaders demanded the permanent expulsion of the accused, Sadia Sultana Neli, and a public apology if allegations of favoritism could not be proven. They also warned of a sit-in program in front of the VC building if their demands were not met within the stipulated time.

Expressing dissatisfaction with the temporary suspension, JnUCSU VP Riazul Islam said that it is still unclear what the university authorities mean by "temporary expulsion."

He added that they will meet with the administration the next day and continue their movement demanding the permanent expulsion of the accused.
When contacted by phone around 5:30 PM on Sunday regarding the expulsion order, Sadia Sultana Neli said, "I have not yet been officially informed about my expulsion. I also don't know why I was expelled. I just finished my exam, so not now-let's talk a bit later."

Regarding the matter, Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Rais Uddin said, "Such incidents have occurred before, but no action was taken by the administration. We will not tolerate such behavior in any way. For now, she has been temporarily expelled. At the same time, the convener of the sports committee cannot avoid responsibility, so he has also been relieved of his duties. If found guilty in the investigation, strict action will be taken against those involved."

On April 29 at around 3:30 PM, it was alleged that Chhatra Dal leader Sadia Sultana Neli publicly slapped the JnUCSU Sports Secretary in front of teachers and students at the university auditorium.

Following the incident, the victim, Georges Anwar Nayeem, filed a General Diary (GD) at Kotwali Police Station, expressing concerns over his safety.
