The newly elected Members of Parliament (MPs) to the reserved seats for women in the 13th National Parliament formally took oath on Sunday.

Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmad administered the oath to 49 reserved-seat MPs at the Jatiya Sangsad Secretariat, bringing the 350-member parliament to its full strength.

The development followed a gazette notification issued by the Election Commission last Thursday, declaring 49 candidates elected unopposed to the reserved women's seats.

According to EC sources, 54 candidates, including NCP leader Nusrat Tabassum, had submitted nomination papers. Of them, 36 candidates from the BNP alliance, 12 from the Jamaat alliance, and one independent candidate were declared valid and gazetted as elected MPs to the reserved seats.
