Saif Ali Khan returns to Netflix with ‘Kartavya
Saif Ali Khan is poised to return to the OTT spotlight with “Kartavya,” a brooding crime drama that is steadily building intrigue despite its quiet run-up.
First unveiled earlier this year, the project has largely stayed under wraps, until now.
Industry whispers suggest the series is eyeing a May 15 premiere on Netflix, though an official confirmation is still awaited.
Backed by Shah Rukh Khan’s Red Chillies Entertainment and directed by Pulkit -- best known for Bhakshak -- Kartavya has been simmering in development for nearly three years, adding to its air of anticipation.
At its core lies a morally charged narrative: a principled police officer pushed to the brink as escalating threats encroach upon his family.
What unfolds is a tense collision between duty and survival, where the badge begins to weigh heavier than ever, and every choice demands a personal cost.
Saif leads a formidable ensemble cast including Rasika Duggal, Sanjay Mishra, Zakir Hussain, Saurabh Dwivedi and Manish Chaudhari -- names that promise layered performances in a story steeped in grit and emotional conflict. The series also marks Saif’s third collaboration with Red Chillies after Sacred Games and The Jewel Thief, further cementing his stronghold in the streaming space. Netflix had earlier teased glimpses of Kartavya during its Next on Netflix showcase, offering just enough to spark curiosity. Beyond OTT, the actor’s slate remains packed.
He is set to appear in Hum Hindustani, a Rahul Dholakia directorial tracing the origins of India’s first general election, and will also share screen space with Akshay Kumar and Mohanlal in Priyadarshan’s Haiwaan, an adaptation of the Malayalam film Oppam.
For now, all eyes are on Kartavya, a title that hints not just at duty, but at the heavy price it often demands.
