Man killed inside mosque in Moulvibazar
A man was brutally killed with a sharp weapon inside a mosque at Sreemangal upazila of Moulvibazar district on Sunday.
The incident occurred during Fajr prayers at West Loyarkul Jame Mosque of the upazila. The victim, identified as Hafiz Mia, was a local resident of the area.
Police have detained a man named Jasim Mia, also from the same neighborhood, for his suspected involvement in the killing. According to witnesses, Hafiz Mia had gone to the mosque to perform fajr prayers. While he was preparing for the prayer, Jasim Mia suddenly launched an attack, stabbing him repeatedly with a sharp weapon. Hafiz Mia sustained critical injuries and died on the spot.
Sreemangal Police Station officer-in-charge (OC) Zahirul Islam Munna confirmed the incident stating, "Upon receiving the news, police rushed to the scene and managed to detain the accused.''
"The accused is currently in police custody. An investigation is underway to determine the actual motive behind the murder and necessary legal actions will be taken," added the OC.
