Two held over attempted attack on tourists in Sundarbans

Members of Bangladesh Coast Guard (BCG) have detained two miscreants in connection with an attempted attack on tourists at a resort in the Sundarbans.

Coast Guard Media Officer Lieutenant Commander Sabbir Alam Sujan said the incident took place in the early hours of May 4 at the Sundari Eco Resort adjacent to the Dhangmari Canal under Dacope Police Station in Khulna.

A group of miscreants allegedly attempted to enter the resort by breaking a window grill with the intention of attacking and looting tourists.

However, they fled the scene after the resort authorities became aware of the matter, he said.

Later, the resort authorities informed the Coast Guard. Based on CCTV footage and intelligence surveillance, Coast Guard Base Mongla conducted a special operation in the area at around 5 pm the same day. During the drive, two suspects-Rajan Sardar, and Ratan Sardar were detained from areas adjacent to the canal on suspicion of their involvement in the attempted incident. Both are residents of Dacope upazila in Khulna district.

Initial interrogation revealed that they had been involved in theft and robbery for a long time, the official said.

The detainees have been handed over to Dacope Police Station for necessary legal action.
