Launch fares rise after fuel hike

The government has raised fares for inland passenger vessels following a recent increase in fuel prices.

The Ministry of Shipping on Tuesday issued a statement increasing launch fares by Tk 0.18 per kilometre for shorter routes under 100km, and Tk 0.14 per kilometre for longer distances.

The hike translates to a 6.49 percent increase for short-distance journeys and 5.88 percent for long-distance travel, the statement said,   bdnews24 reports.

On April 23, the government raised bus fares by 11 paisa per kilometre, with the minimum fares of Tk 10 in metropolitan areas and Tk 8 outside remaining unchanged.
