Boro procurement begins in Kamalganj

The government on Wednesday launched internal procurement of Boro paddy in Kamalganj Upazila of Moulvibazar district to ensure fair prices for farmers and strengthen public food stocks.

Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Md Asaduzzaman attended the inauguration of the procurement programme at a function held at Upazila Food Office premises yesterday morning as the chief guest.

Speaking on the occasion, the Md Asaduzzaman said the government is committed to protecting farmers' interests and warned that no irregularities or involvement of middlemen would be tolerated in the procurement process. According to the Upazila Food Office, the procurement targets for the current Boro season are set at 491 metric tons of boro paddy, 829 metric tons of Atap rice, and 235 metric tons of parboiled rice.  The government-fixed procurement prices are Tk 36 per kg for paddy, Tk 49 per kg for parboiled rice, and Tk 48 per kg for Atap rice.

Officials from Upazila Food Office along with local journalists, farmers and rice mill owners were present on the occasion.
