ABM Mosharraf inaugurates re-excavation of canal dug by Shaheed Zia after 45 years

Gofran Palash, Kalapara (Patuakhali): After a long 45 years, ABM Mosharraf Hossain, MP of 114, Patuakhali-4 constituency, inaugurated the re-excavation of the self-reliant canal dug by Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman in Kalapara, Patuakhali. He inaugurated the excavation work at Baisakhla village of Mithaganj union of the upazila at 11:30 am on Thursday.

Upazila Executive Officer Kausar Hamid, Upazila BNP President Haji Humayun Sikder, Secretary Advocate Hafizur Rahman Chunnu, Municipal BNP General Secretary Musa Tauhid Nannu Munshi, Mithaganj Union Parishad Chairman Mezbah Uddin Dulal, Mithaganj Union BNP President Monibur Rahman Khandaker, etc. spoke as guests at the inaugural ceremony.

Upazila Project Implementation Officer Md. Mokchedul Alam said that the allocation amount for the canal excavation project in the 1450-meter section from the sluice of the Swanirbhar Canal in Ward No. 1 of Mithaganj Union to the house of Kawsar Howlader in the south is Tk 1,34,22,290. The upper width of the canal is 70 feet, the lower width is 40 feet and the depth is 10 feet. There are plans to install 10 feet of roads on both sides of the canal, plant trees on both sides, and install pipes for water drainage.

Mokchedul Alam also said that the total length of the Swanirbhar Canal is 5.400 kilometers. In the first phase, the canal is being re-excavated in a 1450-meter section.
