CCGP approves 3 modernization proposals of BREB

The Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase (CCGP) on Thursday approved three modernization projects under the Bangladesh Rural Electrification Board (BREB). The approval came from the 20th meeting of the CCGP in this year held at Bangladesh Secretariat with Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury in the chair.

A major focus of the meeting was the power sector, particularly the ongoing modernization programme under the "Modernization and Capacity Enhancement of BREB's Electrical Distribution System (Dhaka-Mymensingh Division) (1st Revised)" project.

Under this initiative, the committee approved three significant turnkey packages involving the design, supply, installation, testing and commissioning of new 33/11 KV AIS substations, along with associated land development work.

Under the Package No. MCEP/BREB/DMD-W-3 (Lot-3), approval was given for the construction of eight new substations at a cost of about Tk 117.67 crore. The contract was awarded to the Consortium of EEL and FHL, Bangladesh. Under Package No. MCEP/BREB/DMD-W-3 (Lot-4), the committee approved the establishment of six new substations at a cost of around Tk 90.74 crore. The contract was awarded to Reverie Power & Automation Engineering Ltd.

Under Package No. MCEP/BREB/DMD-W-2 (Lot-3), approval was also given for four new substations with an estimated cost of Tk 77.61 crore, with the work similarly awarded to Reverie Power & Automation Engineering Ltd.

Officials said these initiatives are part of the government's continued efforts to strengthen and modernize electricity distribution infrastructure in the Dhaka and Mymensingh divisions, aiming to improve service reliability and expand grid capacity.
