The arrested was identified as Md Arman Hossain, 22, a Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) student at a private university and a resident of Dewanganj upazila in Jamalpur district, according to a press release issued on Thursday.
According to CID, the investigation began on October 9, 2025, after its Cyber Monitoring Cell detected a Facebook account named 'Siam Howlader' allegedly advertising the sale of sensitive data, including National Identity (NID) information, SMS records, mobile financial service (MFS) account details, bank account information and case-related data.
CID first arrested Md Siam Howlader, 23, from Lakshmipur on October 13, 2025 and later detained another alleged syndicate member, Md Al Amin, 23, from Koyra in Khulna on October 28, the release added.
Based on information obtained during the investigation, CID arrested Arman from Dhaka's Manikdi area on May 5 this year.
During interrogation, Arman reportedly admitted to developing the "Sob Akhane" app and related websites used for selling sensitive information allegedly collected illegally from confidential national databases.
CID said the investigation is continuing to identify other members of the syndicate.
