Mamun Khaled sustains head injury inside prison

Former DGFI chief Lieutenant General (Retd) Sheikh Mamun Khaled, 63, who is currently imprisoned at the Central Jail in South Keraniganj, Dhaka, was injured after reportedly becoming dizzy and falling inside his prison cell. The incident occurred on Tuesday morning (May 5), shortly after he woke up, reports Bangla Tribune. Sheikh Mamun Khaled was Director General, DGFI from 23 June 2011 to 7 March 2013. Assistant Inspector General (Development and Media) of the Prison Department, Md. Jannat-Ul-Farhad, said that Sheikh Mamun Khaled suddenly felt dizzy while getting up in the morning and fell to the floor, suffering a minor head injury. Prison hospital doctors immediately provided him with primary treatment after the incident. However, Sheikh Mamun Khaled's lawyer needs 5 stitches on his head.

Prison sources said that Sheikh Mamun Khaled was initially unwilling to go to the hospital. However, following instructions from the authorities and considering the seriousness of the injury, he was later taken in the afternoon to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) for advanced treatment. A CT scan of his head was conducted there. Following emergency treatment, he was returned to the prison in the evening. According to Sheikh Mamun Khaled's lawyer, he needs further treatment and some more medical tests immediately under expert physicians. His lawyer also wondered why the process of medical treatment for Mamun Khaled is becoming so prolonged.

It is worth mentioning that on the night of March 25, members of the Detective Branch (DB) of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police arrested Sheikh Mamun Khaled from the Mirpur area of the capital. He was later taken on remand and interrogated in several cases, including murder charges. After the remand period ended, the court ordered that he be sent to jail.
