BGB seizes smuggled goods, drugs worth Tk183.20 crore

Border Guard Bangladesh seized smuggled goods and contraband worth over Tk183.20 crore in drives across border areas and other parts of the country in April 2026.

The seized goods included 3.713kg of gold, 155 grammes of diamonds, 17,519 saris, 3,383 three-piece sets, shirt pieces, shawls and blankets, 5,116 readymade garments, 4,553 metres of fabric, 381,464 cosmetic items, 800 imitation jewellery items and 32,12,035 fireworks, according to a press release. BGB also seized 3,762 cubic feet of timber, 3,787kg of tea leaves, 7,410kg of betel nuts, 7,620kg of coal, 3,583 cubic feet of stones, 337 mobile phones, 3,169 mobile displays, 14,099 mobile parts, 24,000 medical equipment items, 16,571 spectacles, 59,035kg of cumin, 19,754kg of sugar, 84,255 packets of food items, 3,954kg of garlic, 3,657kg of fertiliser, 2,139 packets of pesticides, 330,369 chocolates, and 957 cattle 
and buffaloes.

The seized vehicles included 12 trucks and covered vans, three Mahindra vehicles, 11 pickup vans, three private cars and buses, six trolleys and microbuses, 44 CNG-run auto-rickshaws and easy bikes, 37 motorcycles, and 19 bicycles and vans.

The paramilitary force also recovered six foreign and locally made pistols, one magazine, 1,725 rounds of ammunition, eight mines, one mortar shell, two hand bombs, two crude bombs and two other weapons.

The seized narcotics included 23,13,876 yaba pills, 442 grammes of heroin, 2,423 bottles of Phensedyl, 7,353 bottles of foreign liquor, 453 litres of local liquor, 1,343 cans of beer, 1,149kg of cannabis, 170,046 packets of bidi and cigarettes, 122,945 narcotic tablets and injections, 15,598 bottles of syrup, 49,542 Anagra and Senegra tablets, 22,115 pills used to produce liquor, and 24,91,901 medicine tablets of different types.

BGB detained 149 suspected smugglers over alleged involvement in drug trafficking and other smuggling activities. It also detained 86 Bangladeshi nationals, two Indian nationals and 545 Myanmar nationals for illegally crossing the border. Legal action has been taken against them, BGB said.
