Reinstatement of name of Tarique Zia Road demanded in Gazipur

A human chain was staged in Gazipur demanding the reinstatement of the name of Tarique Zia Road. The demonstration was held at Tarique Zia intersection in Taltoli village of Mirzapur Union of Gazipur Sadar Upazila on Friday. 

Led by by Mazharul Islam, joint convener of Gazipur Sadar Upazila Chhatra Dal, several hundreds of leaders and activists of BNP and its affiliated organizations took part in the human chain. 

Speaking the occasion, Sadar Upazila Ulama Dal President Aminul Kazi, who participated said, "Honorable Prime Minister Tarique Rahman came to inaugurate an industrial factory named One Composite Mills Limited in Mirzapur Union of Gazipur Sadar Upazila in 2004. At that time, the condition of this road was very bad.  Seeing this, he immediately instructed the concerned to  repair this road. Late, the road was repaired and named as Tarique Zia Road. During the Awami League government, the road was renamed Taltoli Manipur Road."

Gazipur Sadar Upazila Chhatra Dal joint convener Md. Mazaharul Islam said, 'The history behind this road has been erased by renaming the road as Taltoli Manipur Road. 

We objected the decision previously but nobody paid heed to this. Now, I appeal to the authorities concerned to name this road after my leader, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman."

Gazipur Sadar Upazila LGED Assistant Engineer Md. Fahad said, "I can't say exactly when the road was renamed. However, now the road is recorded as Taltoli Manipur Road. The ministry will have to be approached to change the name of the road."
