Europe Day was celebrated in a grand and colourful atmosphere in Dhaka, bringing together diplomats, government officials, dignitaries and invited guests to mark the occasion in a spirit of friendship and cooperation between Bangladesh and the European Union.
Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury graced the event as the chief guest, while European Union Head of Delegation in Dhaka, Ambassador Michael Miller welcomed and greeted all invited guests at the celebration.
The programme began with the playing of the national anthem of Bangladesh and the anthem of the European Union.
Guests rose from their seats and paid tribute with a standing ovation, creating a solemn yet celebratory atmosphere at the venue when the national anthem of Bangladesh was played.
Speaking on the occasion, Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury emphasized the growing partnership between Bangladesh and the EU member countries. He expressed optimism that the bilateral relations between Bangladesh and the European Union would continue to gain momentum in the coming days, particularly in the areas of foreign trade, good governance and democratic progress.
The Finance Minister also congratulated the EU member countries for organizing the vibrant and successful programme, highlighting the importance of continued collaboration and mutual understanding between Bangladesh and Europe.
In his remarks, Ambassador Michael Miller applauded the participation of guests and extended heartfelt gratitude to all attendees for joining the Europe Day celebration. He underscored the significance of friendship, unity and cooperation shared between the European Union and Bangladesh.
The venue featured colourful and attractive stalls prepared by different EU member countries, including Germany, France, Netherlands, Italy, Denmark etcetera. The stalls displayed souvenirs, publications and traditional food items representing the diverse cultures and heritage of the participating countries.
Officials and volunteers from the consulates of Ireland, Hungary, Austria and Malta, among several other countries, also took part in the occasion, contributing to the festive spirit of the event.
The celebration reflected the strengthening ties between Bangladesh and the European Union and showcased the cultural diversity, unity and friendship shared by the participating nations.
