Abahani stay in title race with win over PWD

Abahani Limited Dhaka kept their title hopes alive in the Bangladesh Football League with a comfortable 2-0 victory over PWD Sports Club at 
ShaheedBarkat Stadium on Friday.

Malian forward SouleymaneDiabate broke the deadlock for Abahani in the 45th minute, giving the Sky Blues a crucial lead before halftime.

After the break, Syed Shah QuazemKirmine doubled the advantage in the 82nd minute to seal the victory for the Dhanmondi-based outfit.

With the win, Abahani, sitting second position in the league table, secured 34 points from 16 matches, one points less than table topper Bashundhara Kings, who have also collected 35 points from the same number of games.

Meanwhile, PWD Sports Club remained in relegation danger with 13 points from 16 matches.

Fortis Football Club produced a dominant attacking display to crush Fakirerpool Young Men's Club 7-1 in the Bangladesh Football League at ShaheedMiraj-Tapan Stadium on Friday. Gambian forward Pa Babou starred for Fortis with a brilliant hat-trick, while Nigerian striker OnyekachiOkafor scored twice in the emphatic victory.

Pa Babou opened the scoring in the 6th minute before Ibrahim pulled one back for Fakirerpool in the 19th minute. However, Fortis quickly regained control as Pa Babou struck again in the 42nd and 45+7th minutes to complete his hat-trick before halftime.

After the break, Nepalese defender AnantaTamang added another goal in the 48th minute. Okafor then netted twice in the 55th and 67th minutes to extend Fortis' lead further.

Fakirerpool midfielder Santo Tadu added to his side's misery by scoring an own goal in the 88th minute.

The convincing day's win saw, Fortis, sitting third position in the league table, improved their tally to 31 points from 16 matches. Meanwhile, bottom-placed Fakirerpool remained on 10 points and continue to battle relegation.
