A journalist in Chattogram has allegedly received a "50 lakh taka extortion demand" from someone claiming to be the younger brother of listed terrorist "Boro Sajjad," who is reportedly hiding abroad. The caller also threatened to "shoot" him if the money was not paid.
Following the threat, Bangla TV's senior Chattogram correspondent Biplob filed a General Diary (GD) at the police station on Sunday. He alleged that he was given 24 hours to pay the money.
Biplob also serves as the acting general secretary of the Janmashtami Celebration Council.
In the GD filed at Kotwali Police Station under Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP), he stated that a person identifying himself as "David Imon" called him on WhatsApp on Saturday afternoon from a United Arab Emirates phone number and demanded extortion money while threatening to shoot him.
Biplob De told journalists that the caller introduced himself as David Imon, the younger brother of Boro Sajjad, and without any provocation used abusive language, intimidated him, and threatened to kill him. The caller also warned that if the money was not paid, he would be shot within 24 hours.
The threat reportedly said:
"If you don't pay the money… we'll turn your whole body into a wasps' nest. We'll shoot so many bullets that your family won't even be able to count them. Bullets don't recognize people. Whatever you do, you have to do it within 24 hours."
Kotwali Police Station Officer-in-Charge Aftab Uddin told reporters that the matter is being investigated following the journalist's GD.
According to the police list, one of Chattogram's top criminals, Sajjad Hossain Khan, alias "Boro Sajjad," has an associate named Imon, whose full name is Mobarak Hossain Imon. His home is in the Kanchannagar area of Fatikchhari upazila. He is accused in seven cases, including the 2025 double murder in Bakalia and the killing of Dhakaiya Akbar at Patenga Sea Beach.
A city police official said that Imon has been carrying out various criminal activities in Chattogram on behalf of Boro Sajjad.
