Footballer Kaiser Hamid appeals to government to save daughter’s life
Former star footballer and National Sports Award recipient Kaiser Hamid is facing the toughest battle of his life. Once celebrated for carrying the country’s flag and bringing honor to Bangladesh on the international stage, today he is a helpless father appealing to the government to save his child’s life.
Having represented Bangladesh at home and abroad for 11 years as a member of the national football team, Kaiser Hamid has applied to the State Minister for Youth and Sports for urgent financial assistance for his daughter Karina’s advanced medical treatment.
The family has a remarkable legacy in sports. Kaiser Hamid’s late father, Lieutenant Colonel M.A. Hamid, was a National Award-winning sports organizer, former Vice President of the National Sports Council, and founding president of the Handball Federation. His mother, Rani Hamid, is an internationally renowned chess player and a National Award recipient, making the family a shining name in Bangladesh’s sports history. Yet, even in this illustrious family, dark days have fallen.
Kaiser Hamid’s daughter Karina has long been suffering from a complex liver disease. Since May 2, she has been unconscious and receiving treatment in the ICU of a private hospital in Dhaka. Doctors have advised that for advanced treatment, she urgently needs a liver transplant at Apollo Hospital in Chennai, India. The initial cost, including air ambulance services, is around 10 million taka, which the family cannot afford.
Once an unstoppable leader on Bangladesh’s football field, Kaiser Hamid is now a broken father. He is appealing for the government’s sympathy and financial support to save his child. His request is not just for a family—it is the heartfelt plea of a dedicated soldier of Bangladesh’s sports arena who fought for the country and is now fighting for his child’s life.
The late footballer Badal Roy’s daughter, Gangotri Roy, told reporters from Australia: “It is the moral responsibility of the state to support this family, which has made extraordinary contributions to the country’s sports.”
Kaiser Hamid’s younger brother, Sohel Hamid, said: “We ask everyone for prayers, may Almighty Allah grant a new life to Karina, the child of Bangladesh’s proud sports family.”
