Alliance Française de Dhaka on Saturday successfully hosted an engaging session of PHOTO ADDA, organized by the Alliance of Photographers (AOP), bringing together photography enthusiasts, professionals, students, and visual culture practitioners for an evening of insightful discussion and exchange on documentary photography and visual storytelling.

The session was hosted by acclaimed photographer and educator Abir Abdullah and featured renowned documentary photographer Rahul Talukder as the guest speaker.

During the event, Rahul Talukder shared reflections on his photo-making process, offering participants an intimate look into the construction of compelling visual narratives. Drawing from his extensive field experience, he spoke about documenting natural and man-made disasters, the Rohingya exodus, political movements, and the everyday realities of life on the streets of Dhaka.

The session highlighted the ethical, emotional, and technical dimensions of documentary photography, while also exploring the role of photographers in preserving moments that contribute to collective memory and social understanding. Through personal experiences and visual examples, the discussion encouraged meaningful conversations around the responsibilities and challenges of contemporary documentary practice.

The event created an inspiring platform for exchange among photographers, learners, and audiences interested in photography and contemporary visual culture, reaffirming the importance of visual storytelling as a medium for awareness, empathy, and historical reflection.

About the Photographer

Rahul Talukder is a Bangladeshi documentary photographer born in 1991. He began his formal photographic training at Pathshala South Asian Media Institute in 2011 and has since developed a compelling body of work focusing on socio-political realities, cultural contexts, and everyday human experiences.

His photographs have been widely published in internationally acclaimed media outlets including The New York Times, The Guardian, and The Wall Street Journal. His work has also been exhibited across Europe, Asia, Australia, and the United States.
