20 million liters palm oil bought for TCB sales
The government is buying 20 million litres of refined palm oil to sell at a lower price to low-income people holding Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) cards. The Ministry of Finance said in an advisory on Tuesday that the oil would be purchased in 2-litre PET bottles from two domestic bidding companies through a local open tender (national) system.
Sonargaon Seeds Crushing Mills Limited and Shabnam Vegetable Oil Industries Limited will each supply 10 million litres.
The government will spend Tk 368.9 million for the purchase.
The proposals to purchase oil and pulses were approved at a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Government Procurement chaired by Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury on Tuesday.
On May 23, the government cleared the purchase of 13 million litres of palm oil. At that time, the finance ministry said the oil would be procured from US-based Powerhouse General Trading LLC through an open international tender at a cost of Tk 1.81 billion.
Palm olein, a liquid fraction derived from palm fruit kernel oil, is mainly used as edible oil.
In addition, the cabinet meeting decided to purchase 106.9 million "anti-TB drug" (2FDC) through an open tender.
Approval was given to construct a residential building for the Chattogram Custom House under the Customs Modernization and Infrastructure Development Project at an estimated cost of over Tk 1.02 billion.
