IU hosts two-day national science festival

The Islamic University Science Club (IUSC) successfully organized the '2nd IUSC National Science Festival-2026' on the Islamic University (IU) campus in Kushtia. The two-day festival was held at the university's Bottola premises with colorful decoration and participation of students from more than 100 educational institutions across the country, organizers said.

IU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Nakib Muhammad Nasrullah inaugurated the festival on Monday through a colorful rally. The festival concluded on Tuesday with a prize-giving ceremony and closing session. The concluding ceremony was chaired by IUSC President Junaidul Mostafa with IU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Nakib Muhammad Nasrullah attending as the chief guest.

IU Treasurer Professor Dr Mohammad Jahangir Alam attended the programme as special guest while Deputy Managing Director of Pubali Bank PLC Mohammad Shahnewaz Khan joined as the guest of honour. Professor Dr Mohammad Shahjahan Ali, adviser to the organization and director of the university's ICT Cell, attended the programme as chief patron.

Sponsored by Pubali Bank PLC and supported by Sohan's Coaching, the festival featured a wide range of science-based competitions and activities including project showcase, science olympiad, poster presentation, three-minute presentation, science bingo, treasure hunt, photography competition, Rubik's Cube competition and chess competition.

Besides, 4D and 9D movie shows were also arranged in the theatre room during the festival.

On the first day, project showcases, poster presentations, three-minute presentations and chess competitions were held simultaneously at different venues on the campus.

On the second day, science olympiad and Rubik's Cube competitions were held alongside project showcases and photography contests. A campus-wide treasure hunt and movie show were also arranged.

Addressing the closing ceremony, Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Nakib Muhammad Nasrullah thanked the Science Club for organizing the festival and said science-based activities play an important role in developing students' creativity, innovative thinking and research-oriented mindset.
He also stressed the need for transforming universities into research-oriented institutions alongside academic learning.
